Chipotle's Rapid Expansion: 350 New Restaurants Coming in 2026 (2026)

Chipotle is gearing up for an exciting expansion, with plans to open nearly one new restaurant every single day in 2026, totaling about 350 locations. This significant growth comes alongside a simultaneous announcement regarding plans to increase their menu prices once more.

The fast-casual chain, celebrated for its customizable burrito bowls, confirmed these ambitious goals during a recent earnings call. In 2025 alone, Chipotle opened 334 restaurants, showcasing their ability to grow effectively and efficiently. CEO Scott Boatwright shared on February 3rd, "Last year, we successfully established 334 new restaurants, thanks to our well-prepared teams and robust development strategies. This year, we're aiming for 350, which translates to almost one new Chipotle opening each day!"

The company has set a long-term target of reaching 7,000 locations throughout North America, reflecting their commitment to becoming a ubiquitous presence in the fast food industry. Back in April 2025, they announced intentions to add up to 345 new establishments by 2026, with a significant portion—at least 80%—featuring Chipotlanes, which are their signature drive-thru service windows designed for convenient pick-up.

Florida is among the states benefiting from this expansion, having welcomed four new Chipotle locations by the end of December 2025, including openings in New Port Richey, Oldsmar, Bradenton, and Largo.

However, this rapid growth comes with its complexities, as Chipotle also disclosed plans to raise prices in the range of 1% to 2%, explaining that their profit margins will be under pressure in 2026. The company noted that this pricing adjustment is necessary due to the ongoing inflationary pressures they are facing, stating, "We are absorbing less of the price increases compared to the inflation we are encountering."

This isn't the first time Chipotle has adjusted its prices. They implemented a 2% increase back on December 24, attributed to rising operational costs. Interestingly, in March 2025, Boatwright had reassured customers about not raising prices despite some rising ingredient costs, particularly for essentials like avocados, tomatoes, and limes, which were impacted by tariffs on imports.

Boatwright suggested that Chipotle's primary customer base—comprising younger, tech-savvy individuals earning over $100,000—might not be significantly affected by these price hikes, saying, "Our customers tend to skew younger and more affluent, aligning with our brand’s focus on clean ingredients and high protein offerings. This is how they prefer to eat."

In a notable innovation, Chipotle recently launched its first-ever high-protein menu, introduced on December 23. This unique lineup includes various items with impressive protein content, such as the Double High Protein Bowl, boasting a whopping 81 grams of protein, and the High Protein Cup, which features a four-ounce serving of Adobo Chicken containing 32 grams of protein.

The introduction of these high-protein options appears to resonate well with customers, with a reported 35% increase in demand for these items upon launch. Boatwright commented, "This positive response reinforces our confidence that our core consumers are not necessarily seeking lower-priced menu items but rather value the quality and nutritional benefits we provide."

As Chipotle embarks on this journey of expansion and product enhancement, it will be interesting to see how these changes impact their market position and customer reception. What do you think about Chipotle's strategy of expanding while also increasing prices? Do you believe their loyal customers will accept these adjustments, or could this lead to dissatisfaction?
